Home hair care basics

Gorgeous hair will naturally look lifeless and unkempt if not looked after. Today we are not going to talk about proper nutrition, taking vitamins or the right lifestyle, we are going to talk about the basics of hair care. For effective hair care, you need to determine your hair type. He might be: normal hair type - the hair is elastic, easy to comb, amenable to styling, hardly splits, has a natural shine and retains these qualities for several days after washing. Oily hair type - characterized by high activity of the sebaceous glands of the scalp and the very next day the hair sticks together and looks dirty, unkempt, and oily hair looks dull. Dry hair - do not comb well, get confused, break off and split not only at the ends, but also along the entire length, look lifeless and dull. Mixed hair type - most often in women it is the mixed type, when the hair at the roots is oily and dry in length or at the ends.

Hair care

1. Washing hair

The first and most important step in grooming is, of course, shampooing.

Hair should be washed when it needs it.

- Before washing your hair, you should comb your hair well so as not to injure it during washing and then after washing it will be easier to comb it.

- Water for washing hair, should be at a comfortable temperature (in no case hot), at the end you can rinse with cool water to smooth the scales.

- Do not wash all your hair with shampoo, just soap the roots, and when you wash off the shampoo from the head, it will flow through the hair and rinse the length of the hair.

- It is better to lather your hair with shampoo twice, distributing the shampoo in circular, massage movements. The first time you rinse off the dirt and styling products, and the second time you leave the shampoo on for 2 minutes so that it can act on the scalp.

- From time to time rinse your hair with herbs (oak bark, nettle, sage - if dark hair, as well as chamomile, calendula, hop cones, burdock, lavender, linden). These herbs strengthen and heal the hair.

- After washing, do not rub your hair with a towel, but lightly blot and hold the towel on your head for about 5-10 minutes so that it absorbs moisture from the hair.

2. Shampoo should be selected according to the type of scalp

In the choice of shampoo, everything is very individual, for someone pharmacy suits, for someone professional, and for someone a mass market is suitable. Someone likes shampoos with silicones, while others are more natural. A properly selected shampoo is the basis for healthy and beautiful hair.

- When choosing a shampoo, you need to proceed from the type of scalp, in more detail how to choose a shampoo, you can read in the article:How to choose a shampoo for normal, dry and oily hair.

- It's ideal to have several shampoos in your arsenal:neutral, for frequent use; acid shampoo with a low pH level of up to 6 - it is well suited for damaged, dry, colored hair; and one alkaline shampoo (pH greater than 7) for deep cleansing of the scalp and hair.

- Always rinse off the shampoo thoroughly so that it does not remain on your hair.

3. Deep cleansing of the scalp.

Just like the pores on the face, the hair follicles on the scalp can become clogged with oil and dirt, so you need to cleanse your scalp as regularly as you do your face.

- Once a week or every two weeks, use a deep cleaning shampoo to wash everything that has accumulated from your hair: cosmetics, dirt, silicones. After such a shampoo, all masks work much better on the hair.

- Do scalp exfoliation, purchased or homemade, such as a salt peel:

  • 1 tbsp finely ground sea salt;
  • 1 tbsp blue clay
  • 2 tbsp base oil (almond, olive ...)

Or:

  • 2 tbsp. l. sea salt;
  • 1-2 tbsp water.

Salt peeling is enough to do once a week or once every two weeks. The procedure is done before washing your hair. First, you need to moisten the scalp well, and then apply the mixture along the parting with massage movements and leave for 5-10 minutes, wash your hair as usual.

Purchased peels and scrubs are available from many brands: Molto Bene, Lebel Cosmetics, L`Oreal Professionnel Expert Soft Peel, Natura Siberica, Paul Mitchell and many others.

4. Balm, hair conditioner

Their main task is to close the hair scales after shampooing and to facilitate combing. They should be well distributed through the hair, easy to wash off and not weigh down the hair. A balm or conditioner should be used after every shampoo and should not be applied to all hair, but somewhere from the middle of the hair. Using conditioners reduces the appearance of split ends and makes hair more manageable and shiny.

5. Hair mask

A hair mask is the main assistant in caring for hair length (one friend of mine replaced all conditioners, balms and sprays with masks, after each wash, she applies a mask instead of a balm, holds for 2-3 minutes and rinses off. And once a week she applies a mask and keeps it already as recommended by the manufacturer for 10-15 minutes, she justifies this by the fact that only masks nourish her hair length and they look well-groomed).

When choosing a hair mask, pay attention to the regenerating, moisturizing and nourishing series, these are exactly the series from which you will notice the effect. And of course, do not forget about home hair masks, which are not inferior in effect to purchased ones, in more detail about home hair masks, you can read here.

If the shampoo is chosen according to the type of scalp (for oily, dry, sensitive), then balms, conditioners and masks are chosen according to the type of hair (for dry, damaged, colored)

6. Leave-in hair products

Oils, serums, creams, fluids, crystals, elixirs are gaining more and more popularity in hair care, especially for the ends. They are a must for long, dry and porous hair.

7. Choosing a comb

The comb plays a very important role in hair care.A quality hairbrush removes dirt and styling residues and distributes sebum evenly from hair roots to ends. The best quality combs are considered to be natural or partially natural bristle brushes, as well as wooden ones and the famous Tangle Teezer. Use only clean combs, preferably washed once a week with a mild shampoo.

8. Thermal protection and hair styling

Let your hair dry naturally as often as possible, but if that doesn't work, use good heat protection. Always use a heat protectant (cream, spray, or oil to keep hair from overheating) before using styling tools. In all professional brands of hair cosmetics, there are thermal protection products, they can be washed off and indelible.

While drying your hair, the hair dryer must be in constant motion. Do not use attachments that restrict the flow of hot air. When drying with a hair dryer, and especially with an iron or curling iron, the exposure temperature often reaches 200OC. And in damaged hair, proteins begin to break down already at a temperature of about 140OC, so be sure to apply heat protection to your hair before using these devices.

Your hair needs as much sun protection as your skin, so in the summer use products that have UV protection and protect your hair from the sun.

For women, everything is simple:

long hair needs to be cut

short - build up,

straight - curl,

and curly ones - straighten.

And that's it!!!

I have long understood that for the hair to be beautiful, grow quickly and not fall out, it is imperative to use, and regularly, 2 times a week, masks, preferably homemade. For example, I love the onion mask. It is easy to prepare and it has a good effect on hair growth. So I recommend it to everyone.

    • Yuliya

Yes, the mask is good, but the smell of onions ...

Home conditions are the best possible way to make your hair much better. As soon as I started making homemade masks for myself, most of all I like honey-based masks, then my hair became much better and more beautiful. They began to shine, naturally, not with a greasy sheen and also stopped falling out.

    • Yuliya

      I also love masked honey.

At home, it's not so difficult to care for your hair. The main thing is to choose the right masks. Personally, I recently began to use masks of my own preparation. Such masks work better and at least there is confidence that they are completely natural and do not contain any chemicals.

    • Yuliya

They have not only a natural composition, but they are not inferior to purchased masks, the main thing is to collect the optimal composition of the mask for yourself.

  5. Anna

The main thing is to find the right care that is right for you. I personally like Horsepower products. They have a great collagen and lanolin shampoo, I like the hair resuscitator too. And the main thing is that my hair only looks better after such care.
